Essential Vitamins for Healthy Skin

Happy New Year! With this new beginning, there is a lot of talk about “New Year. New Me.”

Many people start resolutions but give up half- way into the year. Healthy skin should be a year-round goal. You deserve it!

Where do you start?

First, as we said in previous blogs, healthy skin begins within. Being mindful of what you are consuming determines the condition of your skin’s health. Genetics is also a determining factor in the condition of your skin. Vitamins can help improve the state of your skin. However, if you aren’t taking the proper steps to protect it, the damage can be irreversible.

Proper hydration

A conversation about healthy skin cannot begin without discussing proper hydration. Although water doesn’t contain any specific vitamins, drinking water daily helps cleanse your body of toxins. We naturally lose several ounces of water from sweat, using the bathroom and tears. Staying on top of your water intake hydrates the organs and ensures proper function. It is suggested to drink the equivalent of half your body weight.

What are the essential vitamins that your skin needs to thrive?

Vitamins can be found in topical creams and products. Vitamin E and Vitamin C are necessary for replenishing and repairing your skin.

Unfortunately, many of us are deficient in Vitamin D. Normally, we absorb Vitamin D from exposure to the sun. Increased exposure to the sun can cause vital damage. Therefore, taking an actual supplement may be better for you. Protecting your skin with sunscreen while outside can lessen your exposure to harmful UV rays.

Unaltered Skin has a Vitamin C serum that is a natural source for skin brightening.

Combined with lemon/grapefruit essential oils and Vitamin E, the Golden Milk Scrub provides exfoliation along with hydration.

According to an article by verywellhealth.com, a healthy diet is the best way to get the vitamins your body needs to prevent and repair any skin damage.

Naturally, vitamins can be found in food sources:

Kale: vitamins A, D, C and K. Kale provides natural antioxidants. Perfect for hydration, detoxifying pores and reducing fine lines.

Grapes: natural antioxidants that help the skin stay firm and youthful. Assists in preserving the skin from fine lines and wrinkles.

Watermelon: a great source of Vitamin A & C. A perfect source for hydration, don’t forget you can eat your water as well.

Cantaloupe: another great source of hydration. Cantaloupe is full of Vitamin K, B, choline and betaine.

Pineapple: high in Vitamin C and antioxidants that can treat acne, heal sun damage and assist in uneven skin tone.

Unaltered Skincare’s Instagram page has several informative posts on natural resources that will encourage your vitamin intake. Make sure to like, follow and save!

New Year. New You.

Consult your physician or dermatologist to monitor any deficiencies you may be experiencing. Your skin is a great indicator of what vitamins you may be lacking. They can also prescribe the correct amount of the vitamin you need.

Starting the New Year can be quite intimidating. Set attainable goals. Remember, small steps count too.

Healthy habits are essential for your skin’s success. Remember proper hydration and a nutrient dense diet are key to the vitality of your skin.

Be You. Be Unaltered.
